Taylor Noakes

Taylor C. Noakes is an investigative journalist with DeSmog. He focuses primarily on Canada’s oil & gas sector and its influence on Canadian politics and mass media. Taylor’s reporting covers major energy conferences in Canada and the United States, as well as industry greenwashing and astroturfing efforts. His writing often focuses on energy economics, the impacts of fossil fuel projects on Indigenous communities, the relationship between Big Oil and Big Tech, as well as false solutions such as carbon capture, hydrogen, and LNG. Among others, his notable contributions have included reports on Canadian environmental groups using lobbyists who represent the fossil fuel sector, and the influence of Canada’s tech sector on federal fossil fuel infrastructure development. A public historian by training, Taylor works primarily as a journalist and is a regular contributor to The Walrus, Jacobin, Cult MTL, and the National Observer.
