Who Is Going to Clean Up the Scrap Heap in the North Sea?

The Netherlands has committed to clearing about 75 old oil and gas platforms from the North Sea by 2035, but whether it will succeed is an open-ended question. The Dutch are competing with other North Sea nations, like Norway and the UK, for the same handful of floating cranes and shipyards capable of handling the demolition of these massive marine structures. This lack of capacity could set back North Sea cleanup goals by years — and the longer it takes, the more unpredictable the risks will become.
