Stance on Climate Change

โ€œIn reality, climate is constantly changing and will continue to change no matter what we do.โ€5Dr. Fred Michel. โ€œClimatic hubris: The Ellesmere Island ice shelves have been disappearing since they were first mapped in 1906,โ€ National Post, January 16, 2007.

Key Quotes

โ€œThe success of the human species has been largely due to its ability to adapt to environmental changes. With the evolution of megacities, we now seem to feel that we are powerful enough to change the environment at our whim. Hurricane Katrina’s devastating impact on New Orleans should have been a wake-up call to the fact that we must still be ready to adapt to environmental change, including climate variations. Instead, it has been used by alarmists to promote their impossible goal of ‘stopping climate change.’โ€6Dr. Fred Michel. โ€œClimatic hubris: The Ellesmere Island ice shelves have been disappearing since they were first mapped in 1906,โ€ National Post, January 16, 2007.

Accessed January, 2012.

The Manhattan Declaration states that โ€œglobal warming is not a global crisis.โ€ Those who sign also agree that โ€œthere is no convincing evidence that CO2 emissions from modern industrial activity has in the past, is now, or will in the future cause catastrophic climate change.โ€

March 2โ€“4, 2008

Michel was a speaker (PDF) at the Heartland Institute‘s first International Conference on Climate Change (ICCC1) which rallied together climate change deniers from across the country.

His speech was titled โ€œThe Great Arctic Meltdown.โ€8โ€œ2008 International Conference on Climate Change: Sunday March 2, 2008โ€ (Conference Schedule, PDF), The Heartland Institute. Archived March 7, 2010.

December 13, 2007

Michel signed a 2007 open letter to UN Secretary General Ban Ki-Moon which argues that โ€œthe current UN focus on ‘fighting climate change’ โ€ฆ is distracting governments from adapting to the threat of inevitable natural climate changes.โ€9โ€œOpen Letter to the Secretary-General of the United Nations,โ€ December 16, 2007. Reprinted by the Science and Public Policy Institute.
