Zbigniew Jaworowski

Zbigniew Jaworowski (Deceased)

Credentials

Background

Zbigniew Jaworowski was a professor of atomic radiation and an outspoken critic of mainstream climate science. He passed away in November 2011.4 โ€œDr. Zbigniew Jaworowski, A Scientist Who Fought For Truth,โ€ Larouche PAC, November 14, 2011. Archived October 4, 2017. Archive.is URL: https://archive.is/rhlvH

Joworowski was formerly the Chairman of UNSCEAR (United Nations Scientific Committee on the Effects of Atomic Radiations) from 1981 to 1982.5 โ€œOfficers of UNSCEAR,โ€ United Nations Scientific Committee on the Effects of Atomic Radiation. Accessed January, 2012.

The Council describes its mandate as follows:

โ€œIts mandate in the United Nations system is to assess and report levels and effects of exposure to ionizing radiation. Governments and organizations throughout the world rely on the Committee’s estimates as the scientific basis for evaluating radiation risk and for establishing protective measures.โ€

Stance on Climate Change

โ€œThe basis of most of the IPCC conclusions on anthropogenic causes and on projections of climatic change is the assumption of low level of CO2 in the pre-industrial atmosphere. This assumption, based on glaciological studies, is false. Therefore IPCC projections should not be used for national and global economic planning.โ€6 โ€œClimate Change: Incorrect information on pre-industrial CO2,โ€ Statement of Prof. Zbigniew Jaworowski, March 19, 2004. Warwickhughes.com.

Key Quotes

โ€œThe climatically inefficient and economically disastrous Kyoto Protocol, based on IPCC projections, was correctly defined by President George W. Bush as โ€œfatally flawedโ€. This criticism was recently followed by the President of Russia Vladimir V. Putin. I hope that their rational views might save the world from enormous damage that could be induced by implementing recommendations based on distorted science.โ€7 โ€œClimate Change: Incorrect information on pre-industrial CO2,โ€ Statement of Prof. Zbigniew Jaworowski, March 19, 2004. Key Deeds

December 13, 2007

Jaworowski signed a letter to the Secretary-General of the United Nations in 2007 that calls global warming โ€œa natural phenomenon that has affected humanity through the ages,โ€ defined carbon dioxide as โ€œa non-polluting gas that is essential to plant photosynthesis,โ€ and claimed the UN’s Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change‘s reports โ€œquite inadequate as justification for implementing policies that will markedly diminish future prosperity.โ€8 โ€œOpen Letter to the Secretary-General of the United Nations,โ€ December 13, 2007. Reprinted by the Science and Public Policy Institute.

September 2006

Jaworowski was a speaker at a forum under the Royal Institute of Technology (KTH) titled โ€œGlobal Warming – Scientific Controversies in Climate Variability,โ€ held in September, 2006.9 โ€œA wide-ranging debate at the KTH Climate Seminar, September 11-12th 2006,โ€ gamma.physchem.kthe.se.

The forum discussed how โ€œglobal cooling is predicted based on aspects related to solar cycles,โ€ and describes that โ€œthere is no reliable evidence to support that the 20th century was the warmest in the last 1000 years.โ€

April 6, 2006

Jaworowski was a signatory of a 2006 open letter to Prime Minister Stephen Harper that denied the existence of climate change while urging inaction on climate policy.

March 19, 2004

Authored a statement titled โ€œClimate change: incorrect information on pre-industrial CO2โ€œ which he claims was a โ€œstatement written for the hearing before the US Senate Committee on Commerce, Science and Transportation.โ€10 โ€œClimate Change: Incorrect information on pre-industrial CO2,โ€ Statement of Prof. Zbigniew Jaworowski, March 19, 2004. Warwickhughes.com.

However, there is no record that Jaworowski ever made such a presentation to the US Senate, or provided this paper to them.11 โ€œ‘Written for the Hearing before the US Senateโ€ฆโ€ Some are Boojums, April 28, 2005. Archived May 11, 2012.

Despite no record of Jawarowski presenting to the committee, Steve Milloy wrote a Fox News Op-Ed stating that Jaworowski had presented to the Senate Committee.12 Steven J. Milloy. โ€œHot Air Hysteria,โ€ FoxNews.com, March 15, 2006. Republished by the Competitive Enterprise Institute.
