Canadians’ comfortable impression about the country’s environmental performance took another hit today with the release of a survey showing that Canada ranks 17th among the world’s 21 richest nations.

Canada’s greenhouse gas production (and it’s failure to propose any workable policies to reduce that production were among the major factors blamed for the low standing.

Canada produces 23.4 tonnes of carbon dioxide equivalent per person per year, where the average among the riches countries was only 14 tonnes.

Only the United States, at 24.5 tonnes, and Australia, at 28.5 tonnes, rated lower than Canada.
