Gore pushes Bali delegates for early pact to curb emissions

The Nobel Peace Prize winner has called on government ministers at the UN conference to move the effective date of the new treaty to 2010, saying the request will be in his message when he receives his prize in Norway and later at the current UN climateย conference.

While the Bush Administration has rejected Kyoto, Gore said there were signs of change in the U.S. with more than 700 cities and many states adopting Kyoto provisions, and a call last week by 150 U.S. business leaders for binding carbon emissionsย cuts.

Boarding a train at Oslo airport, he said it would be faster and better than other forms of transport and represented the kind of choice people could make for theย environment.
