Christopher Monckton berates a group of young activists for interrupting a meeting of climate sceptics in Copenhagen, calling them โ€˜Nazisโ€™ and โ€˜Hitlerย Youthโ€™

When Christopher Monckton, the hereditary third Viscount Monckton of Brenchley, attended an Americans for Prosperity meeting in Copenhagen on Wednesday night that was interrupted by chanting youth delegates, he was reportedly furious. But no one expected him to go back and berateย them.

Yesterday he ambushed a small group of students from the non-profit SustainUS inside the Bella centre. One of them texted her friends for help. Several arrived, including Ben Wessel, a 20-year-old activist from Middlebury College,ย Vermont.

Monckton then repeatedly called them โ€œNazisโ€ and โ€œHitler Youthโ€. When Wessel told him that his family were Jewish, Monckton carriedย on.

โ€œI was so surprised,โ€ Wessel said today. โ€œI hoped to have a more civil conversation with the man. Itโ€™s fine that we have differences, but itโ€™s not okay to pull out such hatefulย language.โ€
