Lord Monckton was today accused of demonising Islam as the climate denier moved the focus of his ire temporarily from climate scientists to a major worldย religion.

The controversial Viscount, who falsely claims to be a member of the House of Lords, argued that selected passages of the Qur’an incite violence against nonbelievers and must be banned.ย The article for the right-wing American news site of World Net Daily was headlined The Qur’an is illegal.

Monckton claims that certain verses in the Muslim holy book constitute incitement to murder and anyone who reads these passages out loud must be charged and face the usual penaltyโ€”a long prisonย term.

He wrote: โ€œAfter a grace period of a year, every copy of the Quran must clearly identify by emboldened and different-colored text the passages that constitute criminal incitement to murder, together with a clearly printed warning on the first page that reading any of these passages out loud anywhere within the jurisdiction of the United States may result inย prosecution.โ€

Faisal Bodi of the Islamic Human Rights Commission told DeSmog UK: โ€œIt would not be so worrying if Lord Monckton’s misrepresentation of the Holy Quran was down toย ignorance.

โ€œHowever, it appears to be driven by a religiously motivated desire to demonise Islam and alienate Muslims from the foundation of theirย faith.

โ€œIt speaks volumes that Lord Monckton does not similarly comb through the Bible selecting verses out of context to make the same case againstย Christianity.โ€

Lord Monckton is currently visiting Australia to ‘preach a Christian mission’ with pastor Danny Nalliah who is stridently anti-Islam and calls for an end toย multiculturalism.

David Ferguson points out at RawStory that Monckton ignores passages from the Bible which could suffer the sameย treatment.

The Bible, he argues, calls for the execution of homosexual men (Leviticus 20:13), the stoning to death of adulterous women (Luke 16:18), and the killing of โ€œsorceressesโ€ (Exodus 22:17), blasphemers (Leviticus 24:10), and whole cities if they follow other religions (Deuteronomy 13:13โ€“19).
