A ruling in Vermont today will force automakers to reduce carbon emissions by 30 percent over the next 10ย years.
Automakers, including Ford โit’s easy to be greenโ Motors, the โEnvironmentologistsโ atย Honda and โlook at our great hybridโ Toyota have been fighting mandatory state-level carbon emission standards for close to ten years, saying the effect on industry would beย devastating.
The judge disagreed stating: โhistory suggests that the ingenuity of the industry, once put in gear, responds admirably to most technological challenges. In light of the public statements of industry representatives, history of compliance with previous technological challenges, and the state of the record, the Court remains unconvinced automakers cannot meet the challenges of Vermont and California’s GHGย regulations.โ
I guess history will also now show that the auto industry is really adept at using the US court system to delay action on carbon emissions for close to tenย years.ย
